BlitzWeekend to be hosted at Université de Sherbrooke’s
Longueuil Campus from February 29th to March
2nd 2008
Designers, developers, and entrepreneurs
challenged to create a product in 48 hours
Montreal,
Canada, February 26, 2008 - The BlitzWeekend’s
organizing committee extends a major challenge
to designers, developers, and entrepreneurs
to create a product, from design to deployment,
in only two days. Organized in close collaboration
with MSBi Valorisation and iNovia Capital,
this business startup competition will be held
from February 29th to March 2nd at the Longueuil
Campus of the Université de Sherbrooke.
BlitzWeekend
was inspired by the growing enthusiasm surrounding
the startup scene. Based on other interactive
events like BarCamp, StartupWeekend, RailsRumble
and Mashpits, BlitzWeekend wanted to raise
the bar by allowing talented teams to work
on projects of their choice. Benefiting from
advice of experienced entrepreneurs and investors
present, teams demo their product at the end
of the two-day event and eventually launch
their startup.
“We are
delighted to be part of this exciting event
as it is a great opportunity for local talent
to network and connect, and for us to give
our support to the participating teams,” said
Étienne Lagacé, Associate at iNovia Capital.
“The Université de Sherbrooke was instrumental
in the process by allowing us to use their
facilities at the Longueuil Campus during the
whole weekend. It will provide a conducive
environment for small teams to focus on developing
working product prototypes.” Other enthusiastic
sponsors were eager to get on board, including
BDO Dunwoody, Globalex and Embrase.
The event
starts Saturday, March 1st at 8:00 am, and
ends Sunday, March 2nd at 5:00 pm, with a pre-event
taking place on Friday, February 29th. Winners
will be selected at the end of the weekend.
The organizing committee includes five members:
Heri Rakotomalala, Mehdi Akiki, David Massé,
Denis Canuel and Raymond Luk.
